Mathilda Jenkins hovered nervously outside of McRory’s Bar; it was a place she’d never been to before but her friend had told her it was somewhere she absolutely needed to visit if she was going to do something about Frank Hansen. He’d been exploiting his position for too long now and someone needed to take action. No-one else seemed to be doing it – so it would have to be her.

Steeling herself, she pushed her way through the door and surveyed the scene before her. The bar was almost empty, apart from a man – Nate Ford, she presumed – who was sitting at a table filling in a crossword. He looked up at her, calm and assessing. It had been a while since she’d been under so much scrutiny.

Carefully, she paced herself as she walked across the room. Don’t give anything away – that’s what her pop had always told her.

“Mr. Ford, I-”

She was interrupted by loud voices as the door leading out onto the street was flung open and more people entered.

“I’m just saying, Hardison,” a blonde woman was saying, “it wasn’t that high. Not really.”

“It was high, believe me.”

“Not for us, though – we’re thieves, cons.”

The man gestured at himself wildly. “I am a hacker. A brilliant one. Hackers do not jump off buildings.”

Mathilda didn’t know where to look. Nathan Ford, however, seemed to know exactly what to do.

“Parker, Hardison – I’m meeting a client. Either sit down and be quiet or go and be noisy somewhere else.”

The two associates of Ford looked a little sheepish as they slid into a booth.

Taking a deep breath, Mathilda said what she’d come here to say in the first place: “Mr. Ford, my name is Mathilda Jenkins and I’m here to tell you the world needs your help.”

Fade in:

INT. NATE’S APARTMENT – Day

HARDISON, visibly excited, walks into the room.
ELIOT
What’s made you so happy?

HARDISON
What’s made me happy? What’s made me – Eliot, my man, we’re doing a con at the Museum of Science. Science. That’s my thing.

ELIOT
(shaking his head)
Great, so as well as dealing with an evil scientist we’ve also got to deal with an overexcited you.

PARKER
I think it’s great.

NATE
(stands up)
And I think we should get started. Frank Hansen – he’s a scientist specialising into researching the effects of global warming and methods to combat it. He’s also accepting bribes from a dozen or so oil barons.

PARKER
So why the museum?

HARDISON:
They’re holding their annual conference there next week, lots of big names, big reveals. Hansen’s been trying to get an invite for years so all we need to do is-

SOPHIE:
Make sure he gets one. That shouldn’t be a problem.
Hardison’s phone beeps. He checks it and smiles.
HARDISON:
Definitely not – it’s already done. I know someone who knows someone.

ELIOT
(rolling his eyes)
Of course you do.

The Museum of Science aims to play a leading role in transforming the nation’s relationship with science and technology by promoting active citizenship informed by the world of science and technology, inspire lifelong appreciation of the importance and impact of science and engineering and to encourage young people from all backgrounds to explore and develop their interests in understanding the world around them whether it’s natural or man-made.

The Museum of Science believes that everyone has a role to play in the world of science and technology whether that’s as community leaders or future scientists or as consumers. As a result the exhibits are continuously changed to tell a story of the natural world and the designed world.

In 1864 the museum took displayed collections from various temporary facilities that began in 1830 by 6 men and created the museum of natural history in Boston’s Back Bay. The museum is now one of the world’s largest science centers and its New England’s most highly attended cultural institution. It also attracts approximately 1.5million visitors a year through 700 interactive exhibits and vibrant programs.
Under the leadership of Bradford Washburn, after World War 2 the original location was sold and a lease of the land spanning the Charles River Basin for 99 years was negotiated. In 1948 the museum designed and built the first traveling planetarium in New England. In 1951 the first wing of the new museum officially opened and comprised of 14000 square feet.

In 1980 the Elihu Thomson Theatre of Electricity was opened. This houses a 2.5 million volt van de graaff generator which is two stories high. It was given to the museum by the Massachusetts institute of technology in 1956. In 1999, the Museum incorporated The Computer Museum, bringing its interactive exhibits to the Museum of Science and moving computing technology to the center of its own exhibits, programs, and operations.

Grace Munroe was in over her head. The petite redhead knew it, and she knew that she had to find some way of dealing with her problem. The police had been no help; in fact they had been particularly dismissive when she had gone in to make a report. Once she realized that conventional means weren’t going to be the answer she started looking for other solutions.

The Harpoon Brewery and Beer Hall had been her father’s dream. He had left it to her when he had been killed, and it hadn’t taken her long to realize that his death hadn’t been an accident. She had been paid a visit by the Boston mob not two weeks after his funeral, and she had been graced with their presence twice a week every week. They were going to bleed her dry and take her business, and she knew that there had to be something she could do to avoid that fate.

It had been one cold, snowy evening when she had found her answer. There was a company known as Leverage, Incorporated, and it seemed that they helped those that the law would not. She had done more research, and had found several other people in her neighborhood who had been helped by this same group of people. With the first stirrings of hope that her business could be saved, she had contacted Nathan Ford and begged for a meeting. That call had led her to today and this meeting at McRory’s Tavern.

When she walked in to the tavern she realized it was a total act of desperation, but she also knew that there was no other choice if she wanted justice for her father and to keep his legacy to her. With trepidation she walked up to the tall man sitting at the table drinking from a whiskey glass and said,

“Mr. Ford, my name is Grace Munroe, and I need your help.”

INT. HARPOON BREWERY BEER HALL – Day

The team are sitting on the benches as their client walks away.

NATE
You heard him – this isn’t just about the brewery, this is about charity. We can’t let this guy get away with this. Let’s get to work.

SOPHIE
I’ll make contact with our mark.

HARDISON
Try and get a bug into his phone if you can – we’ll be able to use it.

SOPHIE
That won’t be a problem.

ELIOT
I need to check out the security arrangements for Friday’s race.

NATE
We all know what we need to do, then. Any problems, let me know.

ELIOT
Or me.
Parker and Hardison stay seated as the others leave.

HARDISON
What do you think?

PARKER
(shrugging)
I don’t like anyone who steals from charity.

HARDISON
Me neither.

PARKER
(quietly)
They have pretzels here. Fresh pretzels, baked right here.

HARDISON
You know me, I never say no to pretzels.

The Harpoon Brewery (which is located on 306 Northern Avenue, Boston, MA 02210, although it has a sister place in Windsor, Vermont too) was established in 1986 by three friends who wanted more choices when drinking beer after touring Europe. It was the first brewery to commercially brew and bottle beer in Boston in more than 25 years, making it a pretty significant place. The brewery holds an annual Octoberfest (an ideal time to pull a con – there are lots of people around!) as well as St Patrick’s and Summer festivals. Charity work is another aspect that the folks at The Harpoon Brewery regularly get involved in, running their Harpoon Helps events to raise money for various charities and support food banks. Unfortunately, this could make the place vulnerable to people out to scam money.

More recently, the brewers have produced a naturally gluten-free cider and opened a beer hall in February 2013. The beer hall serves beer and fresh pretzels! (So Parker will be happy!) Tours of the brewery are offered every day and cost $5. Private events can be booked. The tours last for an hour and involve several opportunities to taste the produce. Additionally, there is a retail store on site where you can buy beer, t-shirts and baseball caps. Or if you forget on the day there is an online store.

In 2012 the brewery was awarded the Boston Green Business Award for their work protecting the environment by using sustainable and earth friendly methods such as providing farmers with spent grain for animal feed.

The brewery also has a ‘Friends of Harpoon’ scheme for loyal customers and offers gift cards to use in store and online as well. In other words, there is a lot to this place – no wonder it’s rated 25 out of 307 things to do in Boston on tripadvisor.

It is almost dark by the time Marilyn Dorsey head out on her evening run through the Boston Public Garden. Since she was in high school, running has been her favorite way of clearing her head whenever she feels stressed and overwhelmed. There is a sense of freedom and peace that she gets while running that she doesn’t get anywhere else, and right now she could really use that.

Getting a job at Sterling Craft had been a dream come true. The culmination of years of hard work and sacrifice. She hadn’t even minded the long hours or high expectations that came with a job at such a prestigious law firm. It was all worth it to finally be practicing law and to work with such accomplished peers. However, all that changed two months ago when she was selected to assist one of the firm’s senior partners on a high profile merger. On the surface, it was a dream case. She had an exclusive opportunity to get to know one of the firm’s senior partners and show him her talent and dedication. However, it soon became clear that this is not a standard merger case. It may not even be legal.

Right now it is only a hunch, but there are enough irregularities that she needs to share her concerns with someone. The problem is that she doesn’t know who she can trust. If the senior partner is involved in illegal activity, what’s the say that they aren’t all involved?

That’s why tonight, she is using her evening run for two purposes. Besides just clearing her head, she has made plans to meet one of her law school professors in the Boston Public Garden at twilight so they can talk in private without drawing suspicion to herself.

As she jogs towards the Make Way for Ducklings statue, she is relieved to see Professor Kincaid already waiting for her.

“Thanks for meeting me,” Marilyn says.

“You sounded so urgent on the phone. What’s wrong?”

“It may be nothing, but I just wanted to be sure, and I wasn’t sure who to turn to.”

“You can always talk to me,” Kincaid says. “What’s going on?”

However, before she can lay out her concerns, a young man rushes towards them from the bushes lunges for Professor Kincaid’s purse. Before Marilyn knows what is happening, there are two other young men rushing at them as well. They toss her to the ground and start kicking her repeatedly.

But then suddenly the kicking stops, and she hears the sound of a scuffle. She squints up and can just make out a figure moving quickly to knock out the attackers. The three men who attacked her race out of the park, and the man who rescued her offers her a hand.

“You okay?” he asks gruffly.

“I — I think so.”

He glances in the direction that the attackers fled. “Do you know who those guys were?”

“I don’t know.”

“You don’t think it was just a mugging?” Professor Kincaid asks.

The man shakes his head. “One of them grabbed your purse to make it look that way, but he just tossed it into the bushes.” He trots over to the pushes to retrieve the purse. “Here you go.”

“What if it’s about the case I’ve been working on?” Marilyn asks.

“Case? What case?” the man asks.

“I’m a lawyer. My firm is handling this big merger, but — well, I’ve had some concerns about it. There’s something … weird about it. I asked Professor Kincaid to meet me here to talk about it.”

The man looks thoughtful. “Seems like it’s probably not just a coincidence.” He glances at the park. “It’s getting dark. There’s a place not far from here where we can meet up with some people who can help you.”

After the attack, Marilyn feels hesitant to trust someone. “Help me? How? And who are you?”

“My name is Eliot. I'm a consultant with a different type of consulting group. We help people.”

Professor Kincaid gives the man a curious look. “Are you with Leverage?” When he nods, she says to Marilyn, “Maybe you should trust them, Marilyn. I’ve heard about them. They’ve helped a lot of people.”

She sighs. “Okay. Lead the way.”

EXT. BOSTON PUBLIC GARDEN – Day

NATE and SOPHIE are walking through the park towards the Frog Pond where HARDISON and ELIOT are waiting.
SOPHIE
Where’s Parker?

ELIOT
She’s coming.

HARDISON
We passed by a guy selling caramel popcorn on the way in.

NATE
Okay, so tomorrow night, there’s going to be a fundraiser here for the park. Marilyn’s boss and the CEO of Regenipharm are both on the guest list. While Sophie and I make contact with them, Parker will lift their phones and get them to Hardison.

HARDISON
And I’ll be in Lucille, as usual.

NATE
We only have a few days before this merger deal goes through. We have to get something on these guys before that happens.

ELIOT
Whatever these guys are hiding, it’s big enough that they’re willing to attack two people in a very public place to cover it up.

NATE
That’s why I want you keeping an eye on the party, in case they bring their own muscle.

PARKER pops out from behind HARDISON with a giant bag of caramel popcorn.
PARKER
So why’s it called the Frog Pond anyway? I don’t see any frogs.

NATE
There aren’t any frogs anymore.

PARKER
(looks confused)
So what’s it for?

NATE
Kids can play in it. And there’s ice skating in the winter.

SOPHIE
(looks amused)
Did you used to go ice skating there, Nate?

NATE
My mom took me.

SOPHIE
(smiling)
Adorable.

NATE
Hardly. The other skaters can be pretty vicious. I broke my arm when I got in the way of a girl practicing figure skating.

ELIOT snickers, and NATE glares at him.

PARKER
(stares at the pond)
That sounds like fun. Maybe we should do that Hardison.

HARDISON
What? Uh, okay. Sure. Just, uh, gonna have to practice first … don’t want to mess with no figure skaters.

NATE
(clears his throat)
Alright guys. Let’s go steal a park.

In 1837 the Philanthropist Horace Gray petitioned to use the land, now known as the Public Garden in Boston, as the first public botanical garden in the United States. It was finally settled to be used as a public garden in 1856 after the act establishing use of the land was submitted on the 26th of April with only 99 dissents. However it took until October 1859 for the first detailed plan of the garden to be approved by the committee on the common and public squares. This plan was submitted by Alderman Crane and quickly began construction. It was completed in 1862 when the iron fence perimeter was completed.

In total the public garden takes up 27 acres which was once salt marsh that had been redesigned into a garden with paths, flower beds and a lake for the public to enjoy. In 1987 it was declared a National Historic Landmark.

In 1877 swan boats began operating on the 4 acre pond which has now become a famous tourist attraction although it is only open during the warmer seasons. The swan boats allow tourists to pedal around the lake with a tour guide for a small fee. The pond is also home to two mute swans named Romeo and Juliet, although it was later found out that both were female the names remained.
The public garden contains a large series of formal plantings which are maintained by not only the city but other organisations as well which vary from season to season. Throughout the year the flower beds surrounding the central pathway are replanted on a rotating schedule with different flowers for each season from mid-spring to early autumn. 14 greenhouses in Franklin purpose are operated by the city for the purpose of supplying plantings for the public garden. The garden also has 40 notable types of trees from weeping willows to beech trees.

Kelly Oh isn’t sure what to expect when she steps into McRory’s Pub. From what she’s found out about them, Leverage Consulting is good at what they do, but she no idea as to the how or why of it all. At this point though, she is desperate enough to try anything. The police were a complete dead end, and Dr. Soong’s position as head of their department made any internal investigation completely useless. Unless she finds someone who can help, she and Dr. Torres will be thrown out of MIT soon.

When she asks the bartender for Nate Ford, she is pointed towards a booth in the back, where two men are sitting. As she approaches the booth, she notes that one of them is drinking whiskey, despite it being barely noon, and the other is drinking orange soda.

“Mr. Ford?”

The man drinking whiskey nods. “I’m Nate Ford. This is my associate, Alec Hardison.”

Kelly raises her eyebrows. “Hardison? The Hardison?” She’s heard about his reputation, and knowing that he’s on the team only makes her more curious about how they do what they do.

Hardison grins. “Oh, you’ve heard of me? Are you a hacker too? What’s your handle?”

Nate interrupts him. “Hardison.”

Hardison glances at Kelly. “We can talk about it later,” he says.

“What can we help you with, Kelly?” Nate asks.

She glances at the two men, unsure how much she can trust them. “I don’t really know who else to turn to,” she begins hesitantly. “I’ve tried going to the MIT administration, to the police, but no one believes me.”

Hardison asks. “Are you in trouble with MIT?”

Kelly nods. “Not just me, my advisor as well. I’m a grad student, working on artificial intelligence with Dr. Torres.”

“Artificial intelligence? Like computers that can play chess?” Nate asks.

“More like computers that can learn, the same way that people can,” Kelly says. “Dr. Torres has been a great mentor, and we’ve made some real breakthroughs, but we’ve run into problems within our own department. The head of our department, Dr. Soong, does the same research that we do, and he’s been going out of his way to sabotage us. The past few years we’ve had equipment malfunctions, failures of our backup servers, glitches in security protocols. At first I thought it was just bad luck, but it was always targeted right at us whenever we were making progress. I wanted to go to the Dean with my suspicions, but my advisor wouldn’t do anything without proof.”

“Then, a few weeks ago, my advisor and I submitted a paper on my research. It’s the culmination of years of work. But when we sent it in to the journal, it was flagged for plagiarism. Everything in the paper had already been submitted by Dr. Soong’s group. The journal’s review board, as well as the MIT academic integrity committee investigated, but Dr. Soong’s group did something to their files so it looked like I had copied from them. I swear, that was all my original work, but no one believes me. Now Dr. Soong is going to make a fortune starting some tech company with my research, and my advisor and I are about to be thrown out of MIT. That would be the end of our careers. All you have in academics is your reputation.”

Hardison glances at Nate. “No matter how good they are, there’s going to be a trace of what they did.” He turns to Kelly. “We can get you the evidence you need to clear your names and keep your jobs.”

A rush of relief washes over Kelly, and she smiles at Hardison. “Thanks.” She glances at Nate, who nods.

“We’re not going to let them get away with stealing your work and your reputation,” he says.

“And — um — how exactly are you guys going to do that? I mean, I don't want to get in any more trouble.”

“Don’t worry,” Hardison says. “This is what we do.”

EXT. MIT CAMPUS – Day

ELIOT and SOPHIE walk across the grass, ELIOT is visibly annoyed.

ELIOT
MIT blows.

SOPHIE
Why, exactly?

ELIOT
I’ve had three different students ask me if I’m the new Economics professor. Economics – me? I don’t look like a geek.

SOPHIE
I don’t know, put you in the right shirt and you do have a bit of an academic air about you.

ELIOT
Yeah, well, I never said I wasn’t educated.

They stop as they meet up with NATE, HARDISON AND PARKER.

NATE
Anything useful?

SOPHIE
There’s a lab that might be a useful location for our death scene, although we’ll need to clear some of the students out, I think.

HARDISON
We can lure them to a party – easy.

ELIOT
Because everything about college is about parties.

NATE
Actually, it pretty much is.

ELIOT
(shaking his head)
I’m glad I joined the army instead.

PARKER
I’d have liked to go to college, I think. They give out so much free stuff.

Well, Parker, you might just get to go to college after all.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, more commonly known as MIT, is a private research university located in Cambridge, MA. It was founded in 1861; a proposal by William Barton Rogers, a charter for the incorporation of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, was signed by the governor of Massachusetts on April 10, 1861. The Institute admitted its first students in 1865, four years after the approval of its founding charter.

MIT has five schools and one college which contain a total of 32 departments. MIT is often cited as among the world's top universities. As of 2015, 84 Nobel laureates, 52 National Medal of Science recipients, 45 Rhodes Scholars, 38 MacArthur Fellows, 34 astronauts, and 2 Fields Medalists have been affiliated with MIT.

MIT culture distinguishes itself not only for its seriousness of purpose, but also for its unique sense of humor, as expressed in the arena of hacking. Hacks at the Institute are elaborate but benign practical jokes, perpetrated anonymously on campus, around Cambridge, or even farther afield, and that amaze for their creativity, cleverness, and difficulty of execution. Although not officially sanctioned, hacks can be appreciated for their technical prowess and humorous digs at rival institutions.

Since its founding, MIT has maintained a commitment to be a good neighbor and serve the local community. Students, faculty, and staff at MIT are involved in a broad range of volunteer activities in the community. The Institute's Public Service Center provides programming, guidance, information, and support to those interested in public service, and serves as a resource for both MIT and the community-at-large.

MIT has a far-reaching impact on the economy of the region. The Institute is Cambridge’s second largest employer and largest taxpayer, representing almost 13 percent of the city’s revenue stream. MIT is also a magnet for investment and fuels the innovation economy with the research, start-ups, and talent pool that it generates.
